The WDKEL84 features a pair of EL84 valves in push pull configuration per channel, providing two channels each 15 watts into an 8 ohm load. The output transformers are Ultra Linear keeping distortion down to a minimum. This kit amplifier is available configured for 5 line level inputs, utilising a gold contact Relay Input Switching Module or as a single input unit with volume control that can be used as a Power Amplifier. Simon Pope remarked in Hi-Fi World, "The quality that can be gleaned from this amp is a fine introduction to the joys of the valve sound.
Now in Mark 3 form the WDKEL84 features a new PCB layout with full star grounding and optimised signal and supply lines.
This amplifier is available as a single input power amp or 5 input integrated amplifier with ALPS volume control and chrome transformer caps and offers an easy to construct, low cost introduction to valve amplifiers. External dimensions with valves are 300mm(w) x 270mm(d) x 157mm(h). Updated for 2009 the WDKEL84 has an uprated power transformer running cooler with superior dynamic power delivery and lower mechanical noise and an optimised PCB layout. This amplifier is described by builders as a "Giant Killer" because it out-performs so many other, well respected, amplifiers at many times its price!
Also new in Version 3 of this kit is an XL option which includes high performance Vishay HT supply capacitors, Schottky Rectifier Diodes for lower noise heater supply, SONIQS polypropylene coupling capacitors and SONIQS ICT interconnect cable for internal audio signal wiring for those who want the ultimate performance from this amazing amplifier.
